annabis has been cultivated and consumed for more than 11,000 years. Plants have been grown for centuries using the traditional soil method.

How many people remember brick weed, stress, or reggie?  Cannabis and its products have evolved primarily due to technology, cross-breeding, and different cultivation practices.  Soil is a tried-and-true method that allows the plant to grow, but is the plant reaching its full potential?  The question arises, Why Hydro?

What is Hydroponics? Hydroponics is the process of growing plants in medium other than soil. This could be sand, gravel or pebbles, or directly into water. These methods like Deep Water Culture (DWC) and Ebb and Flow allow the roots to be fully submerged into water increasing the availability of nutrients needed to thrive. There are several ways to grow hydroponically, but why?

Typically growing hydroponically allows a more sterile grow environment.  When growing in “dirt” you can only expect things to get “dirty”. There is a slightly smaller risk of pests when using integrated pest management.  Eliminating soil decreases chances for soil-dwelling bugs.

Studies have shown that not only is there a big difference in yields but also the amount of harvest achieved. Yield is said to increase by 20-30% when growing hydroponically opposed to soil. Partly because plants grow quicker therefore creating larger plants in the same amount of time.  Also, because plants can grow quicker this decreases the time in the vegetative phase.  Grow cycles can be shortened creating more harvests per year.

1-Longer root exposure to nutrients. 2-Targeted to each plant. 3-Less water waste.

Scientifically this occurs because the plants roots are either bathing or drenched in nutrient solution thus absorbing more nutrients needed to achieve maximum growth with minimal effort. The environment, lighting, air flow, and nutrient intake all play a part in a successful harvest. Switching to Hydro was just step one!
